Light + Spirit
Based in Athens, Constantine Korsovitis is an Australian artist and photographer from Sydney. His early conceptual work has evolved into a documentary practice that emphasizes portraiture, storytelling, and the experiential encounter between photographer and subject. Collaboration is central to his practice, which explores themes of identity, transformation, and masculinity. He works with analogue and digital photography, alternative processes, and video installations.
During his overseas travels, Korsovitis developed a strong interest in traditional theatre. He has worked on projects with the British Museum, the Ullen Sentalu Museum in Yogyakarta, and the Museum of Asian Art in Kuala Lumpur. This interest led to a long-term project documenting shadow puppetry across Southeast Asia. The project began in 1999, when Constantine was invited by the Indonesian National Wayang Secretariat to document its International Puppetry Festival in Jakarta.
In 2016, he exhibited photographs from the project at the Kelantan State Museum in Kota Bharu, and in 2018, with the support of the Thai Ministry of Culture, he exhibited part of the project at the Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Centre in Bangkok.
Since 1998, Korsovitis’ work has been exhibited at galleries, museums, institutions, and photo festivals around the world.
Korsovitis studied at the Australian Centre for Photography and holds a Diploma in Photography from the Sydney Institute of Technology. In 2012, he completed a Master’s degree in Documentary Photography at the University of Sydney. A regular contributor to the Australian music press, he has worked at some of the largest music festivals in Australia.
